The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $14 million, though the median price for land, ranches and rural property in Missouri was $342,501. The average price of land, ranches and farms in Missouri was $486,449. Lands of America research shows that over half the land in Missouri is privately owned. The Show-Me State might as well be the Show-Off State when it comes to outdoor recreation. Missouri's sprawling Mark Twain National Forest has 1.4 million acres of land open to public hunting, in addition to numerous state conservation areas as well as private land available to hunt. Of the 115 counties in Missouri, Texas County had the most land and acreage for sale, while Howell County was trending recently as the county with the most land sales recorded through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program.
