Lands of America data shows over $2 billion in land and ranches for sale in the Show Me State. This represents over 428,000 acres of land for sale in the state. Of Missouri's 115 counties, Howell County had the most land and farms for sale. The most expensive land listed for sale in Missouri on Lands of America recently was $99 million, while the average price of land and rural property for sale in Missouri was $403,680. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program last month, Missouri is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from October 2018. Howell County had the most land sales recently in the state. The Show-Me State might as well be the Show-Off State when it comes to outdoor recreation. Missouri's sprawling Mark Twain National Forest has 1.4 million acres of land open to public hunting, in addition to numerous state conservation areas as well as private land available to hunt. Missouri is also home to the country's longest rail-trail conversion, the 240-mile Katy Trail, which follows the course of the Missouri River. With numerous opportunities to hunt species including whitetail deer, turkey, quail, ducks, and geese, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Missouri. Fishermen will enjoy casting for species like bass, catfish, walleye, pike, and trout on land for sale in the state. In terms of size, Missouri is the country's 21st-largest state, covering an area of 69,709 square miles (45 million acres). In total, 68,742 square miles (99 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 965 square miles is made up of water.
