Recent data from Lands of America shows $1 billion in farms, ranches and other land for sale in the Gateway State. This represents a total of 240,321 acres of Missouri land for sale. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $14 million, although the median price for land for sale in Missouri was $336,459. The average price of land advertised for sale in Missouri was $526,772. There was 7,801 acres of sold land in Missouri recorded in March 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a three percent increase in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $28.4 million. The Show-Me State might as well be the Show-Off State when it comes to outdoor recreation. Missouri's sprawling Mark Twain National Forest has 1.4 million acres of land open to public hunting, in addition to numerous state conservation areas as well as private land available to hunt. Missouri is also home to the country's longest rail-trail conversion, the 240-mile Katy Trail and which follows the course of the Missouri River. In terms of size, Missouri is the country's 21st-largest state, covering an area of 69,709 square miles (45 million acres). In total, 68,742 square miles (99 percent) is land, while the remaining 965 square miles comprises water. Less than ten percent of land in Missouri is public land (i.e. national and state parks, national forests, BLM land). With numerous opportunities to hunt species including deer, boar and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Missouri. Of the 115 counties in Missouri, Texas County had the most land and acreage for sale.
