Recent internal data shows $1 billion in farms, ranches and other land for sale for sale in the Show Me State. This represents some 262,917 acres of land for sale in Missouri. The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $12 million, though the median price for land and rural property for sale in Missouri was $311,322. The average price of land and ranches for sale in Missouri was $515,359. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program in May 2018, Missouri is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects a 17 percent increase in sales activity over the previous month, with a combined land value of $23.2 million for all property and land sold in the state. The Show-Me State might as well be the Show-Off State when it comes to outdoor recreation. Missouri's sprawling Mark Twain National Forest has 1.4 million acres of land open to public hunting, in addition to numerous state conservation areas as well as private land available to hunt. Missouri is also home to the country's longest rail-trail conversion, the 240-mile Katy Trail and which follows the course of the Missouri River. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Missouri. Of Missouri's 115 counties, Texas County had the most rural property and land for sale. In terms of size, Missouri is the country's 21st-largest state, covering an area of 69,709 square miles (45 million acres). In total, 68,742 square miles (99 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 965 square miles comprises water.
